Sebastian Møller Jørgensen (b. 2000) is a Copenhagen based artist and graduate from Jutland Art Academy. His practice revolves around social dynamics and how we as humans express and share our experiences.

In his sculptures, he often involves the audience as co-creators and challenges the traditional division of roles between artist and viewer. He works performatively and explores prejudice and social differences — as well as how art can create frameworks for new forms of dialogue.
Through this practice, the artist makes interactive and dialogue-promoting installations which, depending on context and placement, can help bring us closer to one another, aswell as create a free space for imagination and longing, where people of any age and temperament can experience and shape the art in their own way.

Sebastian works sculpturally and more specifically with hyperrealistic human dolls.
With these dolls he composes groups which creates situations of an everyday nature, like snapshots in time.
And at same time that the dolls are lifelike, they are also visibly artificial, made of fabric and stuffing that make them tactile and “harmless.” This leads the audience into an intimate space that can be related to both physically and emotionally.

When the dolls are placed in situations inspired by everyday life, a kind of social-realist “freeze frame” emerges.
The audience sees moments from everyday social interactions, but in a concentrated and intensified form.
The soft, human-like dolls create a tension between recognition and fiction. The audience may feel “seen” by the figures while simultaneously recognizing that they do not react in normal ways.

This opens up the possibility for the viewer to reflect on their own role in social spaces: how do we position ourselves, interact, observe, and relate to differences and communities.
